Instead of ripping your budget on an overwater bungalow, why not try the guest houses in a local island town as an accomodation. These are far way cheaper alternative to the overwater bungalows. The guest house accomodation comes with breakfast. We booked Arena Lodge in K. Maafushi Island. It comes with free breakfast.

The overwater bungalows are found in private resorts and a hefty price that comes with luxury. Book a day trip to visit a private resort and enjoy the amenities as an alternative. We visited Fihaalhohi Resort for the Island Buffet Lunch. The speedboat is included in the package. Snorkel here and there. Frolicking everywhere. Have a massage in the spa.

Food

There is a separate restaurant by the beach in Maafushi island. From Maldivian to Western cuisine are served. An average cost of NZD18. Or cheaper depending on your appetite.

Transfer from Male to the Islands

Go for the private transfer if you like to reach your island destination quickly. Alternatively, the ferryboat will give you the same experience on the water plus the stops at different island towns. It takes 1.5 hours from Male to K. Maafushi. The private transfer will only take 30 minutes. The ferryboat is 10 times cheaper than the private transfer.

Activities and Excursions

There are heaps of activities in Maldives. It will be weather dependent most of the time. Desert islands, Sand Banks visit, Resorts transfer, boat excursion, night or day fishing, snorkeling, barbecue and dolphin watching are some of the activities offered. These activities will dictate how much will be added in your budget.
